Starting with retirement planning

I have been thinking about retirement for quite a long time now. Next month I have been at my current job for 28 years, the previous work was 7 years and before that some minor jobs.

I have some work friend of similar age that has already retired and always tell me to retire as soon as possible.

As I feel a number of different health issues are occuring, I feel I want to be able to stop working and enjoy my time while I am still able.

I need a road map for how to retire. Its not all about the financial situation.

My work is very good in a way that I can remotely from our house. Its not very difficult and not so inspiring as it used to be. I help to improve the processes at our company by improving IT solutions.

There are several meetings each day, all done with the help of the computer. Some days they fill the whole day, other days just two or three.

My eyesight is getting quite worse and I need to spend less time looking at screens, even with my new glasses

The main reasons why I want to stop working is

  • to have more time to improve my physical health.

  • to have less stress caused by so many meetings and things to fix.

  • to have more time for hobbies and meeting friends and family

  • to be able to do things now that I might not be able to do later due to changes in health and energy, like travel

Here in Sweden we can start to take out pension at age 64 (for my age group). I am currently 58 and a half years old. I have started to plan to retire by 60. That would mean I need to cover the years between 60 and 64 with my own money.

To this end I have saved in the stock market and have a very small buffer of gold coins.

I am hopeful to get some money from my work when I retire, it would help in the calculations.

One way to look on it is the longer I work the less I need to cover but there is then less time of freedom.

Clearly inflation will continue so costs need to be under control.

I need to calculate this. Lets think more.
